ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Rudolf A. Hofmeister emigrated in 1960 from Laaber, Germany, to the U.S.A. In 1971 he received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana, and is presently Assistant Professor of German at the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle. He lives with his wife and children in Brookfield, Illinois.
