<p>More than 50 years ago, before television and shopping centers, Southwest Floridians entertained each other by sitting on front porches, rocking, sipping lemonade and telling stories. On such porches, Ella Kathryn Hendry learned the family stories--about her famous great-grandfather, F. A. Hendry, a cattleman, legislator, and influential citizen for whom Hendry County is named. And she, too, became a storyteller, sharing what was life in the early 20th century. Her stories are part of the fabric of Southwest Florida's history. The book is illustrated with her art, and photographs, many from the Florida state archives.</p>
