<p>If you've never experienced the pleasures of a Uranium sitting house, watched the vicissitudes of a tornado season, or purchased a bottle of bootleg whiskey, then you've missed out on some of the rich experiences of growing up in rural West Texas during the middle of the last century. In this collection of short stories, Mike Hairgrove has tried to recreate a simpler time in the middle of the last century. Growing up, Mike knew mostly folks who made their living dry land farming. If the crops failed, then they pursued other sources of income. Uranium sitting houses were a growth industry for a short time. Others sold bootleg spirits while some folks moved to the big cities to look for work. Between the tornadoes and droughts, families did what was necessary to survive. Naturally, farm animals played their role, too. Some were pets, some were working dogs, and occasionally a goat belonged to someone. In spite of the obstacles, the human spirit prevailed and, love bloomed.</p>
