More than a dozen of his full color albums have already been published in Hungarian and German. English Summary: In 1526 the Hungarian armies were defeated in the battle of Mohács by the Ottomans. King Louis II drowned fleeing the battlefield and the country got linked to the Holy Roman Empire through the Habsburg monarchs. In 1541, Emperor Suleiman I. seized Buda and annexed the central part of Hungary to the Ottoman Empire while in the eastern part of the country he established the Principality of Transylvania, which was dependent on him. Along the frontier between the constantly expanding Ottoman-held lands and the Kingdom of Hungary the next 150 years saw continuous warfare, consisting of sieges and devastating raids, interrupted with several Ottoman attempts to seize Vienna and with Hungarian retaliation. The fight on the frontier was over when in 1686 a pan-European Christian counteroffensive started resulting in the liberation of Hungary by the end of the 17th century.

The horse as a rapid means of transport and warfare, and the bow as a long range weapon defined the warfare of the era. The figure, the attire, the weaponry, the lifestyle, the taste and the thinking of great horse archers hardly changed any during the centuries. During the long reign (1301-1437) of the House of Anjou and King Sigismund, the Hungarian Kingdom became an influential European state and a center of alliance systems. Possessing the largest gold mines in Europe, it was a strong economic and military power. Chivalry and arts flowered in the dense network of castles and walled towns. Although fights were continuous among the baronial groups, there weren't any serious attacks against the borders of Hungary. Against the looming threat of the expansion of the Ottoman Empire, a system of Banates and vassal states was formed together with a line of border fortresses along the Lower Danube. The military was built on the noblemen's banderia and the armies of privileged military people (Cumans, Székelys), to which was added the Militia Portalis, a number of soldiers to be provided from serf-lots from the 1430s on. For the most part, they were horse archers and light infantry who served to defend the area of the country.
