<p>Describes the current state of automotive body technology. It covers design and construction of sheet steel vehicle structures; car and commercial vehicle bodies; trim; applications of plastics; and protection against corrosion. The text is accompanied by more than 200 photographs and drawings. Earlier chapters follow the various stages of steel car body construction, starting with the complete styling operation from initial concept to final full size model. The second chapter describes how the body is divided into its constituent steel panels. The third chapter describes equipment and techniques used to press, weld and assemble the panels into the finished structure, the fourth, the manufacture and testing of prototypes. The fifth chapter deals with the production of interior upholstery. Each remaining chapter covers a more particular area of body technology. These are: the construction of commercial vehicle bodies, in the wide variety of materials and forms that the multitude of current uses requires; the use of plastics in automotive bodywork, exterior and interior, passenger and goods, with photographic sequences showing the actual vehicle construction; and lastly the protection of sheet steel body structures by paint and anti-corrosion finishes.</p>
