In the early 1970s, the sport of skateboarding had so waned from its popularity in the 1960s that it was virtually nonexistent. In the DogTown area of west Los Angeles, a group of young surfers known as the Zephyr Team (Z-Boys) was experimenting with new and radical moves and styles in the water, which they translated to the street. When competition skateboarding returned in 1975, the Z-Boys turned the skating world on its head. DogTown: The Legend of the Z-Boys is a truly fascinating case study of how an underground sport ascended in the world. These are the stories and images of a time that not only inspired a generation but changed the face of the sport forever.

Keep Your Eyes Open presents the best of Friedman's unparalleled photographic documentation of Fugazi's members in almost 200 color and black-and-white images captured by Friedman onstage and off between 1986 and Fugazi's last US concert in 2002.
Fugazi evolved from Washington, DC's, hardcore punk scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s. While it would be impossible to fully capture Fugazi in any one medium, Friedman's book effectively complements the band's Dischord Records catalog, which includes seven studio albums, one soundtrack, three EPs, and hundreds of live concert CDs produced from Fugazi's own soundboard recordings.
Fugazi--a band dedicated to democratic self-management, highlighted by complete artistic and financial control--booked its own tours worldwide, and was often the first band to perform in unconventional venues around the world in order to maintain ticket prices that averaged just five dollars, a practice that opened many new venue doors to other touring artists. In addition, Fugazi has never marketed or licensed its name or likeness for posters, T-shirts, pins, or other ancillary merchandise items. Fugazi's unwavering respect for its audience is one of the band's most indelible marks on modern music. The band went on indefinite hiatus in late 2002.

About the Author\nGlen E. Friedman, one of the most important photographers of his generation, is known for his influential and iconic images of rebellious artists from classic skateboarding, punk, and hip-hop cultures. As a true artist his process was much more incendiary than it was documentary. Friedman, first published at the age of fourteen, has produced over one hundred record covers, countless magazine pages, and almost a dozen books, including DogTown: The Legend of the Z-Boys, Keep Your Eyes Open, The Idealist, Recognize, My Rules, and Together Forever: The Run-DMC and Beastie Boys Photographs. His work is now included in a number of notable international collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Institution\nChuck Dukowski (born Gary Arthur McDaniel; February 1, 1954) is a Californian punk rock musician, best known as a founding member and bass player for Black Flag. Dukowski wrote some of Black Flag's most popular songs, including "My War," "What I See," "I've Heard It Before" and "Spray Paint." He left the band before the release of My War, and afterward served as Black Flag's manager. Dukowski was also the co-owner of SST Records until 1990, after which he served as head of sales until leaving the label in the late 1990s. After Black Flag, Dukowski continued to play in Würm, SST supergroup October Faction, and formed his own band SWA in 1985 with Merrill Ward of Overkill. Dukowski has a new band with artist and musician (and his wife) Lora Norton called The Chuck Dukowski Sextet. They released their debut album, Eat My Life, on Dukowski's own Nice & Friendly Records in 2006. In 2013, Chuck launched Flag with former Black Flag members Keith Morris, Bill Stevenson, Dez Cadena, and Descendents/All guitarist Stephen Egerton to perform the music of Black Flag. What I See: The Black Flag Photographs of Glen E. Friedman is an incredible compilation of all of Friedman's most iconic and recognizable images (from 1980 to 1983), of this seminal American punk band, as well as over one hundred never-before-seen photos made during those phenomenal peak years in the group’s history. 
The book includes a foreword by Chuck Dukowski, a cofounder and bass player of Black Flag. Friedman’s own introduction to the book takes readers through his journey with the group, from the very first time he heard their music, to his perspectives on the music of the era, to the how, why, and what Black Flag were doing at the time. The title sums it up perfectly. Friedman book came about due to the   insistence of many of the his friends and fans who wanted to see the   out takes and extras of all of the different people he had shot over   the years, particularly those who were not included in FUCK YOU   HEROES, from the early skateboarding days at the West Lost   Angeles (DogTown) school yards and the infamous Dog Bowl, to the Punk   shows and riots in Hollywood and CBGB's, from the gangster   ridden streets of the Compton Hip-Hop scene to the Hollis   neighborhood of Queens New York that brought the world Run-DMC and   Jam Master Jay, all the way through more recent band photo sessions,   to his Liberty Street protest at Ground Zero in New York City.    This new hard back edition covers up to 2004, and includes an   additional 13 pages not in the original!  To paraphrase an earlier Amazon.com review  This book is unbelievable, if for nothing else, just for the sheer   volume of Hardcore Punk, Hardcore Hip Hop legends, Hardcore   Skateboarding (much Dogtown), and MORE, all in here. Friedman's   previous book was much more selective, he says this is his   "scrapbook" of leftovers but he's really downplaying it, it's much   much more in several ways.
