<p>On top of a mountain just east of Tegucigalpa is a small community called Montaña de Luz, which is Spanish for "Mountain of Light." What makes this community different from the others that form around the dirt roads that thread their way into the mountains of Honduras is that all the children who live there are infected with the HIV virus. They will live out their childhoods there, some of them will die there, all of them will know that they are not alone in the shared struggle to live hopefully in the face of a global scourge that has laid its finger on them. They live in an environment that speaks love to them. They sleep in rooms with brightly stenciled walls and ceiling fans that make it easier to rest on the hot Honduran nights. They awake to people who greet them with the joy of a mother, even though their birth mothers were stolen away by the disease and they were left orphaned months or even years ago. They walk outside to vegetable and flower gardens that have gradually replaced a debris strewn landscape. Here they have a chance at the life every child should have. They go to school, play soccer on the lawn, and get in trouble like children everywhere. This book tells the story of how this place came to be.</p>
