The families described in this book were all part of a vast network which extended throughout Suffolk and Essex in the 16th and 17th centuries.  They were all related to each other, and also to the author.  Some were distant cousins and others direct ancestors.  We meet the Kytsons and Gages of Hengrave Hall, the Wingfields and de la Poles, Dukes of Suffolk, and many other famous and infamous characters, including James Tyrell of Gipping, who is reputed to have been responsible for the murder of the Princes in the Tower.  We read of William Byrd, the Court Musician, and John Daye, the printer who produced Foxe's Book of Martyrs, and was part of the Underhill and Knighton family of Little Bradley.  The book also contains pedigrees showing the relationships between the various families, and pictures of many of the mansions and Manor houses in which they lived.
