<p>According to the author, the one journey that ultimately matters is the journey into the stillness within oneself.  Many persons have difficulty with silence because their lives are filled with unfaced suffering-suffering that has to be worked through in order to hear within the address of God.  Meditation and confession are ways of firmly establishing in consciousness, and thus in the storehouse of the brain, other facts that will help the new in us do battle with the old.  Confession is essential to the quieting of the mind and the silence of prayer in which we come to know the self that is made in the image of God.  The practice of meditation can give us a feeling of separation from what we are observing in ourselves.  The gate is then opened for the comprehending that transforms feelings, or that takes them and returns them to us as manageable forces.  There are two ways to read this book.  One is to read it simply for the enrichment and inspiration of being in touch with writers who confirm one's own intimations of a Kingdom within.  The other choice is to read the book slowly, meditatively, and to follow the suggested exercises.</p>
