<p>Captain Godfrey tells this story of Custer's last battle from the military side, as that is the side he was on. It appears as an objective account from this point of view, and does include information from interviews with Indian participants following the battle, the only source left who could report on the demise of Custer and the men caught with him. Godfrey and his cavalrymen had taken position on another section of the battleground, with no knowledge of Custer's straits, and although harassed badly, managed to avoid annihilation until relief came.</p>
