The Safe Without Sight program contained in this book was developed at a rehabilitation agency and a residential school for the blind. This program teaches both crime-prevention strategies and physical self-defense. Blind men and women are potential victims of crime, like anyone else, and can learn how to avoid dangerous situations, or if necessary, to fight back. The authors include a blind clinical psychologist, specializing in trauma and assault, a blind director of a rehabilitation center where the program was developed, and a sighted self-defense instructor, who had designed a variety of programs for people with disabilities. Together they have put together a solid curriculum of practical, life-saving techniques for staying safe without sight.
