This walking guide is intended to lead you through Little Petroglyph Canyon and to help you understand the art preserved in the Cosos. It begins with a brief background discussion that answers some of a visitor's most common question about this art. it then will move you down the canyon, identifying, describing and explaining a selected set of the panels of art. these panels, and magnificent canyon, as well as the rock art in the Mojave Desert, eastern California and Nevada more generally. The panels will also serve to illustrate--as they were originally intended--the beliefs and practices of the native American shamans-artist, revealing the complex religious symbolism of our Native American forebears.
