Pharr put on Christ in baptism at Wilkesboro, North Carolina, where he was born and reared. He attended Freed-Hardeman University, Rio Grande College in Ohio, and Southern Christian University. He has been preaching for almost fifty years, having served in local ministry in West Virginia, Ohio, and Tennessee. He now preaches at the Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ in Rock Hill, South Carolina. "While a student at Freed-Hardeman he met and married Margaret 'Peggy' Bunker. They have three sons, a daughter, and ten grandchildren. Two sons are also preachers, the oldest grandson is preparing to preach. "For several years David served as director of East Tennessee School of Preaching in Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition he speaks at several revivals in more than a dozen states and at lectureships at Christian colleges and schools of preaching. He is the editor of The Carolina Messenger and a regular contributor in The Spiritual Sword. Published works include six books and three Bible correspondence courses.
