From Fantasy to Faith

Is religion necessarily a form of fantasy, a superstitious childishness we should have put aside by now? If so, what takes the place of empty heaven? May idle dreams threaten secular moralities as much as they threaten religion? If so, are there authentic forms of religion as well as authentic forms of morality which transcend these threats? These central issues are explored philosophically by the author with reference to twentieth century literature.

The contribution of leading Kantian and Kierkegaardian scholars to this collection break down the simplistic contrast in which Kant is seen as the advocate of a rational moral theology and Kierkegaard as the advocate of an irrationalist faith. Their relevance to contemporary philosophy of religion and metaphysics, faith and reason, belief and the autonomy of the individual, religion and morality and the concept of eternal life.
