The renaissance of the Welsh language in the latter part of the twentieth century has seen many parents in Wales give their children Welsh names. These names are part of a heritage that extends beyond the emergence of the Welsh language in the sixth century back through the early centuries of the British Christian Age to the prehistoric world of Celtic myth. Also included in Welsh Names is a list of the nicknames of one village, recalled by the author's grandfather, Jonathan Thomas, and his friend, Johnny Morgan, a leader of the miners in his day. These nicknames reflect the heyday of a century of mining history and a way of life that has gone the way of the collieries themselves.
