Liturgical worship is often viewed as nothing more than an outdated tradition, or a series of meaningless words and motions. The reality, however, is much different. Baptized into Christ: A Guide to the Christian Life

Since the Luther Renaissance in the early twentieth-century, many scholars of the Reformation period have argued for a strong discontinuity between the early Protestant reformers and the following age of Protestant Scholasticism. Such a claim is exemplified by Radical Lutheranism, which purports that Luther's theology is incommensurate with that of the scholastic movements of the seventeenth century. 	 In this work, Jordan Cooper defends the scholastic approach as a genuine outgrowth of Reformation theology and offers a critique of the theological system of Radical Lutheranism. He does this through a thorough exposition of the method used by Martin Chemnitz, Johann Gerhard, and other post-Reformation thinkers. He demonstrates that the foundational metaphysical assumptions of the Lutheran scholastics are both consistent with the Reformation and necessary for the church today. Prolegomena: A Defense of the Scholastic Method (A Contemporary Protestant Scholastic Theology)

The doctrine of justification through faith alone is in some ways the definitive doctrine of the Lutheran Reformation. It is this teaching which Martin Luther famously referred to as the "doctrine upon which the church stands or falls." Despite agreement on the centrality of this teaching, however, there have been no shortage of disagreements on justification from within the Lutheran tradition. From the controversies which followed Luther's death into the beginning of the twenty-first century, debates have continued surrounding various aspects of this crucial doctrine. 
In this volume, eight contemporary voices shed light on these controversies, detailing theological and practical issues involved. The Doctrine of Justification: Theological Essays from the Weidner Institute

The Christian's participatory union with Christ is a central element of salvation, both in Scripture and in the historic Christian tradition. In the early twentieth-century, however, this theme gradually began to diminish in its prominence within Lutheran theological writing. Due to a variety of philosophical and theological shifts, many Lutherans began to emphasize forensic justification to the exclusion of participationist motifs. That forensic exclusivism is challenged in this work. 
In this book, Jordan Cooper articulates an approach to union with Christ that is drawn from both Patristic theology, and the classical Lutheran tradition. Throughout this study, Cooper exposits union with Christ under three distinctive categories: the objective union of God and man through the Incarnation, the formal union of faith in which the believer is united to Christ's person and work, and the mystical union through which the Triune God dwells in the hearts of Christians.
