Published on the occasion of an exhibition of work by American artist Robert Motherwell (19151991), this catalogue illustrates the evolution of collage during his lifetime. The show comprises a selection of 26 artworks on paper, which the artist created between 1960 and 1989. This work is marked by the coexistence of different media and techniques, and characterised by his intuitive tearing methods, similar to the brushstrokes of abstract expressionist paintings. Motherwells collages combine package labels, torn paper, cardboard, and other materials, revealing how he viewed the pictorial surface as a testing ground to create sensations with no prior point of reference.

It is said that American artist David Salle helped define postmodern sensibility in art. This catalogue is published on the occasion of an exhibition at CAC Málaga showing 32 of his paintings, created between 1992 and the present day. Many are large-format works that reflect Salles characteristically rich pictorial language and numerous visual sources, which range from art history and design to advertising and pop culture. His realm of cultural and artistic references, not to mention his questioning of hierarchical and closed systems, however, often eludes the confines of classification through his process of selection and interruption, in turn generating different interpretations.

David Salle: Inspired by True-Life events

Pop surrealist Mark Rydens work is characterised by doll-faced figures, anatomical models, stuffed animals, religious ephemera, Americana kitsch, and copious amounts of meat. Published with his first retrospective exhibition in Europe, at the CAC Málaga, this catalogue reproduces numerous of his canvases, along with several sculptures, in an attempt to summarise and clarify his complex and unsettling world. The Los Angeles artists meticulously detailed and embellished paintings reflect an oeuvre which fluctuates between the enigmatic and the beautiful pictorial fantasies with a clear juxtaposition of childhood innocence and the mysterious and dark corners of the soul.
