Letters to be Read in a Heavily British Accent recounts the hilarious (and historically-set) misadventures of Sherwood, a recruit in H. Majesty's army; and Penelope, his bit-of-all-right back home. Through their letters, they share incidents and events, and discuss their relationship, which looks good on paper, but... Sherwood describes to Penelope in vivid, comic detail his experiences as a soldier, from training camp up to and beyond an epic mission. Penelope's attempts to keep from pining for Sherwood to a really inconvenient degree get her out of the house a lot - with just about everybody! Their separate adventures come together to form the climax (for lack of a better term) of their story.

Joel Bresler’s writing style can be referred to as literary silliness—the experience of reading the prose is more fun than anything the prose might be leading up to. Stories are all well and good, Bresler believes, but they've all been done already anyway, so why let something as trivial as a plot interfere with a good read? After all, nobody ever bought a P.G. Wodehouse novel just to see if Bertie Wooster gets away with it this time.

Sunderwynde Drive lies deep within the heart of the Cleveland suburbs. At the end of Sunderwynde Drive sits number forty-five twenty-six, home to Jerry, Liz and their children, Melissa and Kenny.   Unbeknownst to them, their house covers a piece of ground with a past. Hundreds of years earlier, a curse had been placed on it by a local Native American medicine man (fellowship at Hopkins), who was ticked off at the flood of obnoxious New England settlers bent on competely ruining his neighborhood. The spirits were duly invoked, and these agreed to perform some appropriately retributive act (specifics to be determined) at some far-off, future date.    As it happens, a group of rather odd individuals has stumbled upon the legend of the curse, and has managed to figure out when and where it'll be carried out. The when is soon, and the where is forty-five twenty-six Sunderwynde Drive. They are determined to be on hand when the fireworks start going off.

Teddy Greenwald and Ray Starck have known one another since the Truman Administration. They, along with two other boys, formed the core of a group of kids who did everything together. As teenagers, they discovered that restaurants gave free coffee refills even if you didn't order anything else, leading to a lifetime's worth of bottomless cups and frustrated restaurant owners. Now in advanced age, Teddy and Ray still meet regularly to drink too much coffee and flashback to the various times and events which helped shape their lives. One of their once-close group, who has enjoyed a modestly successful career in Hollywood, comes up with the idea of making a movie about their youthful experiences together and what came after for each of them. For some, however, facing their past, present, and inevitable future all in one sitting proves considerably more difficult than it appears on the silver screen.

In the spirit of A Man Called Ove, Joel Bresler’s charmingly funny novel is a series of journeys between present and past, with characters who are amusing yet recognizable. They still have a taste for adventure, as long as it doesn’t require too much bending.
