The book does a great job in giving a brief history of professional football in this country and summarizes beautifully the state of football in Philadelphia leading up to the 1960 season. It then takes the reader through training camp, the regular season and finally the championship game which pits the underdog Eagles against the NFL's newest powerhouse team - the legendary Green Bay Packers. The book is peppered with laugh-out-loud stories, player profiles and fun facts in small grey shaded boxes that breaks up the narrative and then dedicates chapters to some of the legends of that team - Chuck Bednarik, Tommy McDonald, Pete Retzlaff and the Dutchman. Mr. Gordon is at his best when he describes these players, who the experts believed didn't measure up to some of the other "greats" of that era. As the seconds tick away on the clock in that final game, Mr. Gordon plays time traveler and takes the reader back to Franklin Field in Philadelphia and into the huddle for every big play.
