The Lord asked me to write about Barbara and me in the womb. I said, Oh my, Lord, this is way beyond my comfort zone. The nudge was so strong that I obeyed God s call.  It was fun to interact with Barbara in the writing of this book. God appeared to both of us in the womb. This was awesome; God being so present to us in the haven, the castle, the garden of life. As a pastor, with a calling to go and feed the soul I was interested to know when the soul entered the embryo/fetus.  I found it fascinating that the fetus is conscious and knows that it is a human being. The fetus is not a blob. The I am of the fetus is a conscious God-created human being that is alive and active. As a past Early Intervention Specialist, I worked with developmentally delayed infants for many years. I discovered when doing research that therapists are now doing intervention activities with the fetus in the womb. The research noted that our personalities are being formed in the womb. Therefore some of the problems in the development of the fetus, but not all, may be the result of rejection, improper nutrition, feelings of suffocation, use of medications, or illicit drugs.  The maternal character in this book is fictitious. My mother didn t do anything wrong, nor did this mother. There was no ultrasound technology when I was born. An ultrasound may have shown problems and a cesarean section may have been performed. My sister, Barbara, lived only five minutes after her birth. As a pastor, I have been with families who have lost their babies prematurely, the baby either died at birth or at a later time. Therefore, I felt called to give some grief relief for parents who have experienced loss of their fetus or infant. It is amazing at 75 years of age that I am writing about my sister, Barbara, when we were in the womb. I imagine other twins understand and share this phenomenal experience as our twin appears and is still with us at times. As I say in the book, I am called Barbara at times. I just smile and know Barbara is still with me. From their book Raising Twins: What Parents Want to Know (and What Twins Want to Tell Them), Eileen M. Pearlman and Jill Alison Ganon share questions we ask ourselves when we lose our twin: Why did I survive when my twin died? Am I still a twin? Did I cause my twin to die? I thought this for a long time since I was the second one to be born. I thought, Did I push her out? The authors gave additional insights that we, as twins, reflect upon, such as: I ll always miss knowing what we might have had. I won t know what my twin would have been like as a grown-up. These thoughts linger for me, but God has been faithful and helped me through these moments of loneliness. May God bless you as you read this book. May you experience the playfulness of our little ones in the womb. May it cause you to ponder, ask questions, and imagine how alive the fetus is through the entire pregnancy. May we give God the glory and praise for God s beautiful creations. I give God the praise and glory for the creation of this little book. It is only through God s guidance that this book came to be. May you know God created you, so precious in God s sight. For God is present with you in all things and loves you as God s beloved child.
