It is an entertainer sustained on better pedestrian English appealing to thos who do not read literature. The story takes up the popular TV serial-type props to advance itself. The boy's death near the lake in the initial chapters was at once predictable and so was the nature of the Bramhastra. The last two decades were not the season of good indo-anglian literature. It was the age of fasttrack soaps or movies and also of the books, it seems. Not the literary or the deeper streams of consciousness but the FMCG sense of inveigling the consumer into believing what is good for him in the globalised culture and economy has generated many such masterpieces!!!
