First published in 1973, this book has been brought up to date with additional courses and new ones such as The Belfry and Woburn now included. The author has revisited many of the 115 courses, checking earlier recommendations. In his selection of courses, he writes from the standpoint of a handicap player rather than a scratch golfer. All the championship courses are included but variety, natural surrounding beauty and technical interest are all factors which score points. The relative difficulty of each course becomes apparent through the hole-by-hole descriptions of rounds which the author has played.

Recent years have seen an intensification of discussion on the issue of Britain's political class. The question of who our politicians are is front and centre. Do they represent us? Are all politicians just in it for themselves? Are they disconnected from the lives of normal people? In The Political Class, Peter Allen argues that our current political class are in many important ways unlike the British people as a whole, and this matters a lot.
