Quito, Ecuador, 1960's: Beneath the intoxicating skies of a plateau at 9000 feet, an incident occurs between children from different worlds. Tommy Montovan, an American boy inspired by Sunday school stories depicting the dignity of animals, punishes an Indian shepherd boy for hobbling his sheep. The consequences cast a scar over both their lives as they struggle with shame, anger, and the reality of their places on earth.
