Our employment program has used this assessment very successfully for quite a few years. We use this assessment during individual intake sessions and with groups at the beginning of our Job Club sessions. This assessment tool affords us many options with individuals who exhibit frustration and anxiety when presented with a "test". We can always go to the next lowest level to gain a sense of accomplishment and then re-introduce the desired level for a more positive assessment. We have also used the "Quick Screen" with much success to evaluate the appropriate level to begin the assessment process. I personally appreciate the clear, concise instructions and the many options available with this employment directed assessment tool.2. The Brigance Employability Skills Inventory is a very useful and versatile instrument. One of its strengths is that it is appropriate for a wide range of ages and abilities. Another strength is that the format allows for the administration of the test on several different occasions. This data can inform evaluators as to which path to take with further instruction and assessments. This is a good tool to use in designing IEPs as well because all skills are stated in goal friendly language. It's something of a portfolio as well because each student has their own protocol booklet which you return to again and again and note their progress at various ages and stages.It's good evidence of long term transition planning.
