Eeeeek! Cackle-cackle! Ghostly Greetings! Halloween is coming! It’s almost time, and we are sure you’ve already prepared everything, from eerie pumpkins to Halloween costumes. But perhaps, just perhaps, you’ve got some old books with no value at buyback at home and are willing to put them to good use this Halloween as well. Then this article is for you! Surely, there are millions of DIY Halloween ideas, but in this post, we’ve selected our spookiest and witch-approved book decor favorites. We hope you’ll try them!

DIY Book Pumpkin

So, let’s start with pumpkins. Surely, you’ve prepared real pumpkins and carved them all right. How about using some of your old books from the attic to make a few more? You’ll need: old books, pray paint, scissors, hot glue and glue, a few random twigs, and raffia ribbon. It may look complicated, but actually, it’s easy! You remove the book cover. Next, you cut along the top and bottom to create a pumpkin shape. Then, you fold the book spine in half and stick both ends together with hot glue. Trim the pages to achieve an ideal pumpkin shape. Add a twig, and spray some paint. Voila, your spine-tingling pumpkin is ready!

DIY Spellbooks

How about a few spellbooks? Easy-peasy! You’ll need an old book, small Halloween figures from Walmart or Target, rope or raffia ribbon, a paper towel, and acrylic paint in most depressive colors (ominous glow-in-the-dark ones will also do the trick). You can follow the steps in the video, and in a few minutes, you’ll have your own wicked spell book! Or, with the help of paper towels, glue, and paint, you can even make a magic wand. Now, you are all ready: “Itchita Kupita, Melaka Mystika…”

Book Ghost Cuttings

Another easy but spooktacular Halloween book decor idea is to use your old books and their pages to create cute and spooky ghosts. In this case, you will only need a book, scissors, and your imagination. You can cut out ghosts, bats, and whatever characters you can. Choose Pinterest and Esty for inspiration!

Potions Book

Now that you have spellbooks, how about a few potion books? This time, we suggest an easier way: you can choose the book covers online (luckily, you can find plenty of free book cover design templates for Halloween) and simply print them out! It’s just perfect for a Halloween party. Again, you’ll only need a book, scissors, and any paper to print the cover. Ah, and scotch tape. Nooow, where is your cauldron? Here is one of our favorite recipes: 3 oz belladonna,  4 x hemlock oil, one eye of newt, a pinch of bat wings, and finally, spider venom. Make sure you follow the instructions precisely!

Book on Fire

How about this Halloween book decor idea? To create such a beauty, you’ll need a book (preferably a very old and thick one), a lighter (to make the burned pages effect, scissors (to cut the pages in the form of flames), and finally, Halloween floating fireball prop (there are plenty of them on Amazon). Wow-wow, look at this! Isn’t it fantastic? We guarantee your kids, guests, and you yourself will be fascinated.

Book Page Wreaths

Let’s move on to the next Halloween book decor idea—a book page wreath. This one is a little time-consuming; however, the result will be worth it. You’ll need a book, scissors, and glue. First, separate the book cover and all the pages. Next, one by one, make all the book pages identical in form: by either folding them or following the template you’ve chosen earlier. When all book pages are folded, stick them all one by one starting from the middle. Oh, wow, look at this! A pro tip: it will be faster if you do it together with kids.

Book Pages Trick or Treat

Use book pages to create cute little pockets with treats. When it’s time to greet trick-or-treaters, you’ll have plenty of such pockets to make everyone happy! Besides, it’s extremely easy: just use the book pages, scissors, and glue. You can even use old newspapers if you have some. Put candies inside and some black shredded paper above to add spookiness and dark fleur!

Book Ghosts

We’ve already suggested one book ghost idea, but here is another one. Do you remember our book pumpkin? You do pretty much the same at the beginning—to create a ghost head. However, you’ll also need another book to create a body for your ghost. Add a few details, eyes, and a few ribbons, and you’re all set. Not bad, huh?

Book Sculptures

Finally, our last Halloween book decor idea for pros: crate a book sculpture. To achieve something like this, you may need a few used books and several attempts (let alone a sharp carving knife). However, the end result is soooooo well worth it, don’t you agree? Here is one of the examples of what you can do. Pinterest has an endless supply of ideas and inspiration, so we suggest you just search “book sculptures” there (and on YouTube for step-by-step instructions).
