Spanish translation of the English language book, "Puerto Rico's Birds in Photographs" (ISBN 0-9650104-1-4), sold without the CD-ROM that accompanies the English book. Puerto Rico's first book to illustrate in color photographs all breeding birds and regular migrants. Over 320 color photos of 185 species of Puerto Rican birds are included.  The text is designed for students, teachers, tourists, and anyone who wants to understand Puerto Rico's natural heritage by  learning about its fascinating birds. The species' life histories are written in a non-technical style for the general reader, and include important lessons for conservation of our natural resources. All common birds of the Virgin Islands are also illustrated.  Over 80  professional and amateur ornithologists collaborated in this effort.   Translation by José Placer.

<p>Para la mayoría de gente el Caribe evoca playas paradisíacas de arena fina con palmeras, pero para los ornitólogos, Cuba, Haití, Jamaica se asocian más bien a aves exóticas como los barrancolíes (Todidae) y los cocobinos (Cinclocerthia) y a una gran riqueza de aves endémicas (c.190 especies). Como muestra, seis familias de aves son exclusivas de la región y otra más, las ciguas (Spindalidae), prácticamente también lo es. Asimismo, en estas islas, se pueden observar muchas especies accidentales procedentes de Norteamérica, Sudamérica y del Viejo Mundo. Para mayor aliciente, también pueden observarse algunas de las aves más raras y amenazadas del mundo, como la reinita de Semper (Leucopeza semperi) endémica de la isla de Santa Lucía en las Antillas Menores y el carismático Picomaderos picomarfil (Campephilus principalis), cuyas últimas poblaciones conocidas se albergaban hasta hace poco en los más remotos bosques cubanos.
