Better World Books collects and sells books online to fund literacy initiatives worldwide. With more than two million new and used titles in stock, we're a self-sustaining, triple-bottom-line company that creates social, economic and environmental value for all our stakeholders.
We were founded in 2002 by three friends from the University of Notre Dame who started selling textbooks online to earn some money, and ended up forming a pioneering social enterprise, a business with a mission to promote literacy.
We're not a traditional company with an add-on cause component. Social and environmental responsibility at the core of our business. You could say it's in our DNA.
We're breaking new ground in online bookselling. We believe that education and access to books are basic human rights. That's why books sold on BetterWorld.com help fund high-impact literacy projects in the United States and around the world.
|Feb 2013||So, I was really pleased with BetterWorldBooks. I researched the company before buying 3 books with them and I wasn't too sure, but decided to give them a chance. My books arrived a little late, but that was due to a major snowstorm, which I didn't find a problem. i thought something was wrong with one of my books (faulty printing) and put this in the reviewform. I didn't expect them to get back to me, as I hadn't filed a complaint or anything, I had just filled out a reviewform. However, the next day I already had an email from them, apologizing and offering me a ten dollar voucher! Without even knowing if I was lying! That was so kind. In the end it turned out that the 'faulty printing' was artistic licence of the writer, so all my books were in perfect condition. I was so surprised and happy with their customerservice and quality, I will for sure buy from them again! Yaaay for betterworldbooks!|
|Dec 2012||They don't buy as much as some other sites, but they are quick to pay and are more lenient when it comes to condition. Definitely recommended.|
|Dec 2012||They never paid me for my books and will not respond to email inquiries.|
|Jun 2012||Better World Books I like their concept. To help increase literacy while making money selling books is both fun and rewarding. While I never donate my books to those charities it makes me feel good that I can choose one to receive a small percentage of my order without it costing me anything from my quote. The service is very competitive in their pricing but I wish they were included in the Bookscouter app so I could compare in the field. They do have a more basic and not so friendly website control. But unlike others on here I have never had a problem with Better World Books. I've sent them about a dozen shipments. None of the shipments was ever "lost", all of my books were accepted, payment via PayPal was very prompt beating out every other service I've used on bookscouter. Granted there is not a lot of communication and that can be a bit unsettling but overall my experiences with Better World Books has been very positive. I've noticed recently they are expanding the number of books they are making offers on and I'm looking forward to them being added to the app so I can increase my bottom line while out scouting. I would suggest you give them a try and make up your own mind before dismissing Better World Books. I've enjoyed dealing with them and you might too. It's possible to have a bad experience anywhere but one bad experience does not a bad company make. Good luck everyone with your book scouting.|
|Jun 2012||Pays easily via paypal, often takes books others don't, low min of 3 books.|
|May 2012||I've used Better World Books for many shipments over the last year. They have an excellent service and I always feel good thanks to their donation to literacy charities with every shipment I send. In addition their purchase prices are often competitive and they pay via PayPal very promptly. I highly encourage others to not hesitate to send them your books when they offer the best prices. I hope they will return to the preferred list soon so that I can use them when scouting with my phone app as I hate missing out on good purchases.|
