Looking for Talented Android and iOS Developers

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

It is time for me to make some modifications to the BookScouter Android and iOS applications and I’m looking for some skilled programmers that are interested in working on these. If you are a developer, or know of one, please Let me know.

I’m hoping to get started on some changes pretty quick and to have some new functionality added to the apps in the next month or two.

Thanks,
Brandon Checketts

Mobile Site Cleaned Up

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

With an increasing number of users visiting the mobile BookScouter site at http://m.bookscouter.com/, the site was due for a little touch-up work. I’ve just modified that site to that it has the same feel of the full site. The colors, logo, fonts, and sizes now match so that it is a little more pleasant experience using the mobile site. It also displays a small image of the book so that you can double-check that the book matches the one that you are expecting.

BookScouter Android App Now Features Bluetooth Barcode Scanner Capability

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

I’ve just released a new version of the BookScouter Android application that will allow use with a Bluetooth Barcode scanner. This new feature will make the application much more useful for users who are doing a lot of scans. The Android application has always had the ability to use the device’s built-in camera, and it has worked very well, but it is still relatively slow compared to the speed of a dedicated laser barcode scanner.

Any device compatible with the SerialMagic Gears application will now work with the BookScouter app. SerialIO sells Bluetooth barcode scanners SerialIO.com for as little as $149.95.

Configuring the device is not exactly self-explanatory, so I’ve written some instructions for getting it working on an Android device.

BookScouter Mobile Beta

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

I’m very happy to announce the availability of a simple beta version of the BookScouter Mobile Application. It is available now at http://m.bookscouter.com. This initial release is a very simple price lookup system with minimal formatting and ‘fancy stuff’ to make it perform well on a mobile device. Please give it a try as you are out and about, and leave feedback in the comments below, or via the contact form.

I have been working for the past couple months on rewriting much of the code for the site, and the new mobile application is the first part that will be running on the new code. The new code base will enable development of some new features that I have been planning, but were difficult to impliment previously. In addition, the new code should perform faster and reduce some of the server load that has been stretching some limits this buyback season.

In the next week or two I’ll also be redoing the main website to be based on this new code. It won’t have many visible changes initially, but I’m excited to get it out there as well.
